My EMS carrier began in 1996 in west Texas working with private and municipal EMS services. By 1999 I held my first operations manager position with both a private EMS firm and then in 2001 for a municipal EMS service. Later my carrier took me into San Antonio where I worked as a field medic with AMR as part of the Bexar County EMS service. During this time I obtained much experience with a variety of different emergency situations. In 2005 my wife and I moved back to Victoria (our home town) where I performed marketing and paramedic service with Coastal Medical Service until they were purchased by Southern Cross Ambulance. There my duty was as a local manager.
In 2009 I heard that Sacred Heart Medical Services would be opening in Victoria and began speaking with the perspective owner. I knew immediately that this would become my home. The dedication patient care with up to date equipment, aggressive protocols, and willingness to adapt to change showed me this service would become a new standard of private EMS in Victoria. I currently serve as the Vice President of Sacred Heart Medical Service and remain very proud of our service. To remain proficient in my skills I do spend time on the ambulance. I maintain certifications as EMT-P, BLS, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS with testing planned for my NRP, CCP, and CFP. It is my pleasure to service my home town by providing professional, reliable, and state of the art care to my neighbors.
My name is Johnene Cunningham. I was raised in Pleasanton, Texas. I was an athlete and a fair academic. Graduating in the top ten percent of my class is one of my greatest achievements. After high school graduation I entered the work force. It was difficult to decide where, I would be best suited. Growing up in a small farming community, I learned the value of hard work and helping your fellow man at an early age. It seemed a no brainer when in December of 1994 I answered an ad in the newspaper for a police dispatching job. I was hired in January of 1995 and I knew right away this was where I belonged. I struggled early on with the desire to be "on the street" versus behind the scenes. When I realized the value of a quality dispatcher is just as important as being "on the street" I was more comfortable in my position.
I spent 11 years dispatching for various police departments and county agencies. My experience varies from the small municipality of less than' 8000 people to San Antonio Police Department to county dispatching and finally Airport Police dispatch. During this time I took every opportunity to be the best dispatcher I could be. I attained the level of Advanced Telecommunicator through TCLEOSE. I hold several certifications in fields such as Hostage Negotiation, Crisis Communication and Suicide Intervention. In July of 2005 I decided I needed a "change of scenery". I took a job in pest elimination to get as far away from dispatching as possible. While pest elimination was fun and exciting it was not ,where my heart was. In March of 2007 I was drawn back to dispatching again, this time in the private sector. Being in the private sector is very different than working for a municipality or government run agency. I was surprised by all the latitude and lack of structure that I encountered. I thrived in this environment however by having the ability to enact the skills I learned working with law enforcement. When I began dispatching for a private ambulance company in New Braunfels,Texas it did not take me long to realize that there was room to move up the corporate ladder. After being a dispatcher for just over a year I became the Dispatch Supervisor. Since leaving that company for Sacred Heart I have attained a level I hadn't expected. Being the Vice President of Communications is a taxing position. I handle everything from dispatching to pre-billing. I enjoy my job and the people I work with and for.
